Talk Like A Cross-Promotion Day

I’m kinda tired of Talk Like A Pirate Day, but hey, if it means I can get free stuff like the first chapter of the new Monkey Island game for PC, maybe it ain’t so bad. I’m eagerly awaiting the day when Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day becomes played out and I can get a free copy of Back To The Future on Blu-ray.

Snuggie Jesus

Bow down before Snuggie Jesus and confess your sins, especially if you’ve been consorting with the accursed Slanket. (photo credit: me, taken a few weeks ago at Costco)

The Racist Elephant

And then there are people who are only partially motivated by race. They are pretty sure they’re not racists but just don’t want that man to talk to their children he just doesn’t seem very American. Most of them would probably still be out protesting if Joe Biden were President—though they might see him as a little bit more “American” and a little bit less threatening. They might be concerned—but they wouldn’t be terrified. They might be upset, but they wouldn’t be irate. And they never liked the government that much—but suddenly their country doesn’t look like it used to. And they’re pretty sure that Obama is somehow their enemy—even if it’s unclear whether that makes him a communist, a terrorist, or a Nazi.

The Elephant in the Room is a Racist at Squashed [via]

A topic I’ve been thinking about lately as well and trying to figure out how to get beyond it.

Norm

Norm MacdonaldJust bought my ticket for Norm MacDonald’s show on the 25th at the Irvine Improv and it should be a good one, assuming he shows up. Like most people, my first awareness of him came from his tenure as the host of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” during the mid 90’s. Unfortunately there aren’t too many videos of his Updates but there are some audio clips on Youtube, and they give you a good reminder of his unique style that tended to cause a lot of awkward laughter and even occasional boos.

There’s also his legendary appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien wherein Conan labels him the “biggest ass he’s ever met” and Courtney Thorne-Smith discusses her role in cinema classic “Chairman of the Board” alongside Carrot Top.

Mostly recently I’ve enjoyed his segment in the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget. Most participants in recent roasts bring out the same “edgy” jokes that tend to tread the same old ground but he actually managed to do something unique and confuse the hell out of most of the audience in the process.

Microsoft <3 jQuery

jQuery, Microsoft, and Nokia:

Microsoft is looking to make jQuery part of their official development platform. Their JavaScript offering today includes the ASP.NET Ajax Framework and they’re looking to expand it with the use of jQuery. This means that jQuery will be distributed with Visual Studio (which will include jQuery intellisense, snippets, examples, and documentation).

jQuery and ASP.NET already get along pretty well but support in Visual Studio is welcome news.

Memepire

Just an FYI everybody, there’s an article on 4chan in the WSJ, so that means it’s time to wrap the whole thing up. Had a nice run but all good things and all that.

Also:

Last September, Ben Huh and a team of investors purchased “I Can Has Cheezburger,” a site that aggregated the “LOLcats.” Mr. Huh hopes to turn the 4chan-generated tradition into a meme empire with several other related sites in the works. The site now has more than 2.5 million unique visitors a month, according to Mr. Huh, and a book based on the site is coming this fall for Gotham Books.

“Meme empire” makes me die a little on the inside.

Here are some photos from The Oregonian. I’m hearing around 75,000 people were there. Crazy!
