Just bought my ticket for Norm MacDonald’s show on the 25th at the Irvine Improv and it should be a good one, assuming he shows up. Like most people, my first awareness of him came from his tenure as the host of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” during the mid 90’s. Unfortunately there aren’t too many videos of his Updates but there are some audio clips on Youtube, and they give you a good reminder of his unique style that tended to cause a lot of awkward laughter and even occasional boos.
There’s also his legendary appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien wherein Conan labels him the “biggest ass he’s ever met” and Courtney Thorne-Smith discusses her role in cinema classic “Chairman of the Board” alongside Carrot Top.
Mostly recently I’ve enjoyed his segment in the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget. Most participants in recent roasts bring out the same “edgy” jokes that tend to tread the same old ground but he actually managed to do something unique and confuse the hell out of most of the audience in the process.
Dammit, I’m jealous.
