Like most people, my first awareness of him came from his tenure as the host of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” during the mid 90’s. Unfortunately there aren’t too many videos of his Updates but there are some audio clips on Youtube, and they give you a good reminder of his unique style that tended to cause a lot of awkward laughter and even occasional boos.

There’s also his legendary appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien wherein Conan labels him the “biggest ass he’s ever met” and Courtney Thorne-Smith discusses her role in cinema classic “Chairman of the Board” alongside Carrot Top.

Mostly recently I’ve enjoyed his segment in the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget. Most participants in recent roasts bring out the same “edgy” jokes that tend to tread the same old ground but he actually managed to do something unique and confuse the hell out of most of the audience in the process.

Also:

Last September, Ben Huh and a team of investors purchased “I Can Has Cheezburger,” a site that aggregated the “LOLcats.” Mr. Huh hopes to turn the 4chan-generated tradition into a meme empire with several other related sites in the works. The site now has more than 2.5 million unique visitors a month, according to Mr. Huh, and a book based on the site is coming this fall for Gotham Books.

“Meme empire” makes me die a little on the inside.

After a week and a half back in Oregon with my family I can without reservation recommend the board game Wits & Wagers. The tagline is “The board game for everyone” and in my experience that held true. My family hasn’t historically been a big board game family. There are various editions of Trivial Pursuit lying around the house but they don’t get played because:

Nobody knows most of the answers

It takes forever to play

Wits & Wagers takes a lot less time to play, usually 25-35 minutes, and everyone has a chance to win based on what they know about the other players. All the questions are number-based (how tall was Napoleon, what year was the Statue of Liberty finished, how much TV did the average American watch last year, etc.) and everyone bets on whom they believe has the closest answer without going over so having an encyclopedic knowledge isn’t required, though it certainly helps. This is a game that benefits from a diverse set of players with different knowledge sets so all the answers don’t turn into guessfests, but it’s still fun with almost any group.

I discovered the game through an article at Wired. The game can be purchased from Target although it may be in short supply so you may have to do some searching but it’s worth it.
